St Vincent and the Grenadines

Discover the unspoilt beauty of one the Caribbean's hidden gems

Picture a chain of islands in the heart of the Caribbean Sea, uncluttered by tourist exploitation, with white-sand beaches on deserted islands, sky-blue water gently lapping the shores and barely a soul around… welcome to paradise!

St Vincent has one of the Caribbean’s most diverse eco-systems and landscapes with lush mountain peaks (and an active volcano), deserved white sand beaches and some of the regions best scuba diving and snorkelling. Snorkelling in the Tobago Cays is a must for anyone visiting St Vincent and the Grenadines! At the Cays (a group of small islands at the southern tip of SVG) you will immerse yourself in the vibrant underwater world of colourful coral gardens, teeming with exotic marine life of all shapes and sizes, including sea turtles and stingrays.

St Vincent’s unspoilt beauty is one of the reasons it features so heavily in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. You can take a tour of some of the films famous spots! Our team will be on hand throughout your elective to help you plan trips and ensure you see all the best this Caribbean paradise has to offer.

To help get your elective off to an unforgettable start we organise a sunset cruise. You will have the opportunity to meet our team, the other elective students and observe the beauty of St Vincents oaked in the red glow of a sunset. The island’s sunsets are so stunning that St Vincent’s strong rum is named sunset (and should be approached with caution!).

Climate

In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the climate is tropical, hot and humid all year round.

From January to mid-April the island has a relatively cool, dry season, which then becomes more hot and humid as you move into the summer months.

The island enjoys northeast trade winds, which make the tropical climates feel a little cooler.

Like any tropical climate, some intense downpours are to be expected. Normally short and sharp they are quite spectacular to witness and often as warm as a shower!

Accommodation

Our standard accommodation is a beautiful sea view villa. This spacious house has six bedrooms, a large kitchen and lounge, four bathrooms, a wrap-around balcony, washing machine, Wi-Fi, a safe and air conditioning.

There is plenty of social space to relax during the evenings, and the house is a short walk from the beach and a bus stop into town.

The house is secure with a fence encompassing the land, a gate and the owner located next door. Our local team are also on-hand 24/7 throughout your elective.

The highlight of my elective were being immersed in a new culture both socially and medically. It was interesting to experience the medical problems that come with a different culture and some I have never seen before. Learning about local culture, trying new experiences, foods, dances and making friends! Exploring the beautiful islands of St Vincent and the Grenadines, from waterfalls to salt ponds to rainforests and amazing beaches it has it all! I fell in love with the island.

Thank you to MEA and especially Khari for making our elective an experience I will always treasure.
